  • Aroma of dark chocolate and vanilla, notes of dark chocolate, white sugar and grapefruit in aftertaste. Medium-High citrus acidity and a heavy body with creamy mouthfeel.
  • This very sweet-forward Kenyan coffee shows great complexity at light-medium roasts (around 90 Agtron) with a clean grapefruit-like finish. At medium to dark roasts (About 80 to 60 Agtron), the heavy body is more pronounced and the grapefruit and citrus acidity make way for lots of dark chocolate notes.

He grew this inheritance to what it is today

Using coffee farming, Charles is involved in community projects that empower youth in coffee farming through education, mentorship, leadership, and character development. In 2017, he helped distribute 30,000 coffee seedlings to over 150 farmers as part of this project. Charles is also the coordinator for IMENYA, a partnership of 32 estate coffee farms in Meru County and is a board member of New Kenya Planters Cooperative Union.

The entire Makarimu Estate is a combination of 10 small and medium farms totaling 33 acres (13ha) owned by Charles Mutwiri. The red volcanic soil with rainfall between 1250 and 2500mm each year, the estate has a great environment to grow coffee over 1600 masl. The coffee is pulped in a 2-disc pulper and fermented in water in tanks before being fully washed and dried on raised beds.
