  • Bakers chocolate, caramel, mild citrus acidity, creamy mouthfeel, lavender florals and a subtle savory note adding to complexity.
  • Like many high quality Guatemalan coffees, roasting this bean is a breeze! We prefer drinking this coffee somewhere between light/medium and dark/medium depending on its use. The baker chocolate really shines at the darker end of medium.

About the coffee:

Born and raised in Cobán, Mr. Arturo Gelpke spent his early adult life in Guatemala City. His dream was to return back to manage the farm near his hometown in Cobán, but circumstances would not allow this until after the birth of his second son, Walter. Shortly after, Don Arturo met a landowner who was looking to sell his property in Cobán. Seeing this as the golden opportunity to fulfill his dream and move back to his childhood town, Mr. Gelpke purchased the land and began planting coffee. He began teaching his three sons about farming and agriculture.

Every Friday after school, Don Arturo would go to the farm with his sons and teach them how to work the land. This upbringing led Walter to pursue an education in agriculture. Now after Mr. Gelpke’s death, his two oldest sons oversee the farm to preserve their father’s legacy. In November 2020, the farm was hit by Hurricane Eta and Iota which caused substantial flooding resulting in significant losses to the yield of coffee this year, but what limited coffee was available exceeded all expectations of quality.
