  • Honey and cherry notes in fragrance. Aroma of watermelon and dark chocolate. Flavors of cherry, grape jam, raisin and nougat with a dark chocolate and honey aftertaste. Mild malic acidity with green apple notes. Very heavy bodied and fudge-like mouth feel.
  • This coffee is all about the fruit, chocolate and body. We recommend roasting close to medium (about 80 to 85 Agtron) for a “big” and heavy cup profile.

After the soaking process, cherries are laid on raised beds with a thickness of 5cm where they are monitored and turned frequently each day. The raised beds are strategically located in an area that receives little sunlight and high winds which blow through and create an even drying that takes only around 15 days to complete.

Action packed and juicy - oh yeah!

This is bean full of flavour! Wow. The best way I can describe it is that it tastes like a concentrated kool-aid burst bottle.

I’m roasting on a fresh roast. A bit of a slow roast easing into it, about 7.5-8 minutes.

Pulling in an anfim cody and la pavoni.

I don’t get any flavour separation using the Cody’s burrs, but Im laser accurate when dialling in. When the espresso is towards the under extracted side I get a bit more grape and green apple. When it is towards the over extracted end I get brownie and juicy cherry (I’ve been pulling most of the shots in this area). When I’m too far over extracted I get an unpleasant stretchy chewiness. I don’t get honey or watermelon, and haven’t brewed this for drip/pourover/french press etc.

To be honest I find this bean overwhelming. It’s not for me, it’s too fruity and sweet. I prefer a more traditional flavour profile. None the less, it would be unfair to give this bean less than a 5. There is a lot going on. It has big flavour up front. Very interesting to say the least. I think the flavour notes described are very fair.

Edit: Thank you for the reply. I have a bag of the Nensebo I have yet to open. I’m looking forward to it. The Sewda is a fantastic offering none the less. I’m looking forward to trying this as a drip.

Thanks for taking the time to share your detailed experience with this coffee, Rick! If the profile from Sewda isn't for you, I would suggest trying the natural processed coffee from Adorsi in Yirgacheffe or the natural from Nensebo in West Arsi. We have fresh coffees from both stations on the way so keep an eye out for them this Summer.
