The station pays farmers a premium for quality cherry and offers credit along with training on the practices that help improve both quality and yield.
Most farms in the area run close to 1.5 hectares, grown as garden coffee alongside other crops, and without chemical fertilizer. One of those farmers is Gebeyehu Derso, who manages 3.5 hectares in the Halo Beriti area, with 3 hectares planted to coffee and the rest given over to cereals for the household. Coffee is the family's main source of income, and it supports a household of 12, most of whom are in school, aside from the three eldest, who now work alongside their parents at harvest time.
