  • Fragrance and aroma of cherry and honey. Up front flavors of cherry and milk chocolate with an aftertaste of honey and florals. Mild citric acidity with a medium-heavy body and milky mouthfeel.
  • Roasting decaf can be a little tricky at first. The appearance of the green coffee is significantly darker than conventional coffee so roasting by sight can be a bit misleading. Make sure to look at the internal bean color and taste your roast to verify your roast level. Furthermore, the moisture contents of these decafs are typically lower than conventional caffeinated coffees so the roasting process tends to go much faster. Watch out for coffees roasting too fast and be sure to check out this roasting guide provided by Swiss Water Decaf.

Naming the cooperative “Tuvemubukene”, or “to get out of poverty”, the women aim to work together to help each other increase cash flow, improve income stability, and create financial sustainability for their families.

The women use basket making and sewing clothes to diversify their revenue streams and increase financial stability for their families.  Today the Tuvemubukene Cooperative has more than 65 members and a reputation for both high quality and social sustainability.  The women of Tuvembukene Cooperative deliver their coffee cherry to the Nyamumba washing station where the coffee goes through multiple rounds of sorting and is eventually dried on raised beds.

Once processed, a portion of the coffee was then sent to the Swiss Water decaffeination facility in Vancouver, British Colombia to be a part of the “Small Batch” program.  The Swiss Water process removes the caffeine while maintaining the complex aroma and flavor notes.
